West Indies V Australia 1st Test Day 3 Updates – Brisbane
  • Nov 28th, 09

West Indies are looking in a bad situation from here. They are on the verge of being forced to follow on. West Indies will be hoping some heroic performances from their batsmen whereas Australia will be looking forward for repeat of yesterday to make West Indies bat once again.

West Indies 1st Innings

  • 6th Wicket: 50 runs in 77 balls (TM Dowlin 21, D Ramdin 30, Ex 0)
  • West Indies: 150 runs in 42.2 overs (256 balls), Extras 6
  • Over 45.1: Referral by Australia, Umpire-Asad Rauf, Batsman – D Ramdin (Struck down)
  • D Ramdin: 50 off 50 balls (9 x 4)
  • TM Dowlin: 50 off 106 balls (8 x 4)
  • Johnson to Ramdin, OUT, Johnson makes the breakthrough! Edged to first slip and North swallows a straightforward chance. Johnson had been swinging a few in and this one angled across just on an off-stump line so Ramdin had to play.
  • Drinks: West Indies – 187/6 in 52.0 overs (TM Dowlin 52, SJ Benn 7)
  • West Indies: 200 runs in 54.2 overs (330 balls), Extras 8
  • Hilfenhaus to Benn, OUT, and Benn’s entertaining innings comes to an end, he’s tried to turn it through leg and got a healthy leading edge that lobs up wide of mid-off, where Siddle runs around to make the catch.
  • Hauritz to Taylor, OUT, gone! Hauritz strikes in his first over, Taylor lunges and gets a little bat onto pad, and Katich comes forward to clasp a catch while on the move. I’m not sure if Gould was going to give that, but Taylor walked in any case.
  • Hauritz to Roach, OUT, Hauritz is on a hat-trick! Draws the outside edge and Clarke at first slip lunges to his left and grabs the catch with one hand, beautiful take from Clarke.
  • Hauritz to Dowlin, OUT, and that’s the end of that. Dowlin goes for a big heave over midwicket but he hasn’t got hold of it well enough to clear the rope, Watson is in the deep and makes a good catch
  • Innings Break: West Indies – 228/10 in 63.0 overs (R Rampaul 1)
  • Lunch: West Indies – 228/10 in 63.0 overs (R Rampaul 1)
  • West Indies 2nd Innings

  • Over 2.1: Referral by West Indies, Umpire-Asad Rauf, Batsman – CH Gayle (Struck down)
  • Hilfenhaus to Gayle, OUT, leaves an inswinger and he looks plumb – given out and the WI skipper challenges, now what does the replay say? Umpires call is the call from upstairs and he is still out – terrible start and great bowling
  • Hilfenhaus to Dowlin, OUT, gets one to comes back at him from back of a length and sadly he plays it on to his leg stump. Looked a bit late on the shot, disaster for the Windies.
  • Hilfenhaus to Chanderpaul, OUT, short and tries to pull, rather lamely in the end and Katich takes a good catch running back with the flight near the square leg
  • West Indies: 50 runs in 14.2 overs (87 balls), Extras 1
  • Drinks: West Indies – 51/3 in 15.0 overs (A Barath 37, DJ Bravo 6)
  • A Barath: 50 off 67 balls (9 x 4)
  • 4th Wicket: 50 runs in 67 balls (A Barath 28, DJ Bravo 22, Ex 0)
  • West Indies: 100 runs in 24.4 overs (149 balls), Extras 1
  • WICKET! Would you believe that, just as I was thinking: god forbid let it be Hussey who breaks the partnership he does it. Short and it’s hooked towards deep backward square leg and Hilfenhaus takes the catch. We’ll have tea after this over, a single for Nash to get off the mark and that is tea.
  • Tea: West Indies – 106/4 in 28.0 overs (A Barath 73, BP Nash 1)
  • Nash takes three to start the over before Barath collects a single and goes on to 98. WICKET! Oh, Hauritz has struck again! Arm ball which the batsman misses and it’s plum on the pads in front of the stumps.
  • Watson to Barath, OUT, tries to work to leg, hit on the pad and is given out LBW, looked a shade leg side to me – Barath rightly challenges, the TV replay shows that that it is just clipping leg. That is wrong for me – technology letting the game down there. A lot of time that would have been not out – the end of a top knock, great effort – 104 out of 6/154 for the West Indies.
  • Watson to Taylor, OUT, short and pulls to deep square leg, Hilfenhaus takes it with ease.
  • Ramdin takes a couple towards point before Hauritz strikes again! WICKET! Haddin takes the catch with his thumb and his first finger as Ramdin gets an edge and is sent packing. So the Aussies just two wickets away from drawing first blood here.
  • Benn starts off the over with a single towards deep square leg and Roach defends watchfully before he succumbs. WICKET! Trying to pull it there, I think and the leading edge finds Hussey in the gully. Another one bites the dust.
  • Mitch is brought into the attack and he’s got a chance to get a consolation prize. And he gets it. WICKET! An edge down the leg side sees Haddin take an absolute beauty of a catch – he flies to his left and clutches the ball just off the ground. Lovely stuff. That’s the game for Australia.
  • Australia won by an innings and 65 runs
