  • Dec 3rd, 09

Live Updates of 2nd Test Match, being played at Basin Reserve, Wellington between New Zealand and Pakistan. Start of the match was delayed due to wet ground. Play was started after lunch only.

Toss - New Zealand have won it and opted to bowl. Tuffey, as widely expected, comes in for Bond. Three changes for Pakistan – Misbah, Salman Butt and Kaneria are all in. They are replacing Fawad Alam, Saeed Ajmal and Khurram Manzoor.

Pakistan 1st Innings

  • Wet Ground: Pakistan – 0/0
  • Drinks: Pakistan – 25/0 in 12.0 overs (Imran Farhat 16, Salman Butt 9)
  • Pakistan: 50 runs in 23.1 overs (140 balls), Extras 1
  • 1st Wicket: 50 runs in 140 balls (Imran Farhat 28, Salman Butt 22, Ex 1)
  • Drinks: Pakistan – 54/0 in 24.0 overs (Imran Farhat 28, Salman Butt 25)
  • Pakistan lost their 1st wicket. Salman Butt c Tuffey b O’Brien 29 (103b 4×4 0×6) SR: 28.15
  • WICKET! The bouncer does the trick and it;s a good bouncer from O’Brien – quick, and just wide of off stump. Butt is lured into the shot but splices the ball straight up for Tuffey to take the catch trotting in from mid-on. New Zealand have been trying the bouncer for ages without success, but O’Brien gets just reward now. Umar Akmal comes in at number three and immediately looks in the zone, but he’s hugely fortunate as he withdraws the bat late and gets a full face of the willow that flies just wide of third slip. Four runs result, but that was very lucky indeed.
  • Pakistan 60/1 (32.2 ov)
  • Pakistan lost their 2nd wicket. Imran Farhat c Taylor b Vettori 32 (98b 3×4 0×6) SR: 32.65
  • Vettori to Imran Farhat, OUT, The openers have been sent back, New Zealand have clawed back before tea! Short of a length outside off and appeared to hold its line, quicker through the air and Farhat, trying to be a little cheeky, made a bit of room to play it past slip but ended up getting a thick outside edge straight to Taylor who reacted well to snap a sharp one.
  • Pakistan 66/2 (35.1 ov)
  • Pakistan Lost their 3rd wicket. Mohammad Yousuf lbw b Vettori 0 (2b 0×4 0×6) SR: 0.00
  • Vettori to Yousuf, Full length delivery on middle and off. OUT, That’s hit Yousuf on his pads. A strong appeal from Vettori and fielders. Umpire Taufel declares Yousuf OUT. Pakistan have lost their third wicket.
  • Pakistan 66/3 (35.3 ov)
  • Tea: 90/3 (40 ov)
  • Play resumes
  • Pakistan: 100 runs in 41.4 overs (251 balls), Extras 1
  • 4th Wicket: 50 runs in 54 balls (Umar Akmal 39, Misbah-ul-Haq 11, Ex 0)
  • Pakistan lost their 4th wicket. Umar Akmal b Tuffey 46 (48b 6×4 1×6) SR: 95.83
  • WICKET! Bowled’im! And the surprise is that Umar Akmal is out playing a defensive shot. He falls to a pearler from Tuffey, which just nipped in off the seam a bit, kissed the front pad and then clipped the top of off stump. It’s Tuffey’s first Test wicket in five years and he’s understandably elated. New Zealand are back on top again as Shoaib Malik joins the action.
  • Pakistan 119/4
  • Pakistan loses their 5th wicket. Shoaib Malik c Vettori b Tuffey 9 (16b 2×4) SR: 56.25
  • D Tuffey to Malik, OUT! CAUGHT! Full length delivery just outside off. Good length delivery outside off, Slower in pace, Driven straight to Vettori uppishly at mid-off. Pakistan have lost their fifth wicket for 131.
  • Pakistan – 131/5 (49.5 ov)
  • Drinks: Pakistan – 138/5 in 51.0 overs (Misbah-ul-Haq 15, Kamran Akmal 6)
  • Pakistan: 150 runs in 54.2 overs (327 balls), Extras 1
  • Over 55.2: Referal by Pakistan, Umpire- SJA Taufel, Batsman- Misbah-ul-Haq (Struck down)
  • Pakistan Lost their 6th wicket. Misbah-ul-Haq lbw b Vettori 19 (50b 0×4 1×6) SR: 38.00
  • WICKET! Misbah plays his first loose shot in many overs and pays for it with his wicket. A sweep across the line misses and the ball goes on to strike him on the back leg leaving umpire Taufel with no choice but to raise the finger. Misbah asks for a review but it’s a complete waste because he was always plumb. Mohammad Aamer is the new man in with Pakistan in real trouble here. Can he and Akmal show some sensibility?
  • Pakistan 156/6 (55.2 ov)
  • Bad Light: Pakistan – 161/6 in 58.0 overs (Kamran Akmal 21, Mohammad Aamer 2)
  • End Of Day: Pakistan – 161/6 in 58.0 overs (Kamran Akmal 21, Mohammad Aamer 2)
